Understanding Dry Diamond Core Drills

The name given to a diamond core drill can often be misleading, a more fitting name would be ‘Dry Core Mills’ as diamond core drills mill away at a material rather than drill.
A common misconception by some tradesman is that by putting increased pressure on the core drill the results will be quicker, unfortunately, the opposite applies as excess pressure causes a reduced milling speed, increased heat buildup and reduced lifetime.

If a customer informs you that a core drill is slowing in the cut, suggest drilling 2-3 holes into an abrasive material like a breeze block or a sandstone product, this will redress the segments exposing the diamond grit that will subsequently speed up the process.

By simply explaining these points to your customer they could save both time and money!
